SCIENTIFIC CONTRIBUTIONS 

During the period 16-19.6.2010 IAMAW held its second conference in Izmir, Turkey, in conjunction with the V^th International Bioengineering Congress, organized by Ege University. Fifty people attended the conference, of which 11 were IAMAW members. Nineteen oral presentations and 18 posters were presented. The participants were clearly satisfied with the scientific level of both oral presentations and posters and very vivid discussions followed each presentation and during the poster session. Presenters who wish to publish their paper in a special issue of Waste Management should inform the organizers (Prof Nuri Azbar and Dr. Michael Raviv) and will get further instructions.

On 19.6 we boarded and bus to tour the area of Izmir, and most notably the magnificent ancient city of Ephesus. The pastoral and picturesque views suited perfectly the serene atmosphere of the whole meeting.

During the business meeting of the Association Michael Raviv announced that after 2 years as President of IAMAW, he will step down this September. New elections for the role of President and for Board members will take place soon.

Dr. Kostas Chartzoulakis proposed to hold the next IAMAW conference in Chania, Crete, in 31.10-4.11.2011, in conjunction with the Olivebioteq Conference. The Board will negotiate the conditions with the Organizing Committee of Olivebioteq and a circular will be sent to all IAMAW members in due course.
